Full Pipeline Overview
AI filmmaking can be summarized as: script → storyboard → generate → edit → publish. Quality at each stage affects the final result.
Step 1: Script
- Structure: Setup, development, climax, resolution; clear conflict and payoff
- Length: Match target platform (e.g., 1-minute short, 3-minute mini-series)
- Visualization: Write scenes and actions so they translate easily to images
- Dialogue and narration: Write early for storyboard and voice-over
Step 2: Storyboard
Storyboard contents
- Shot number, duration, shot description, camera movement, notes
- Aim for 5–10 seconds per shot for single-generation feasibility
- Write a separate video prompt per shot
- Include: scene, character, action, camera, style
- Note character and scene reference images if used
- Use Midjourney, DALL·E, etc. for key frame concepts
- Unify color and style for use during generation
Step 3: Generation
Tool choice
- Sora, Runway, Kling, Pika, etc., by need and budget
- Mix tools: high-end models for key shots, cheaper ones for transitions
- Generate in storyboard order so the last frame of one shot can start the next
- Generate multiple versions per shot and choose in post
- Log prompt, model, and parameters per shot for reproducibility
- Check motion continuity, character consistency, lighting
- Regenerate or adjust prompts for problematic shots
Step 4: Editing
Shot assembly
- Arrange shots in order; add transitions (cut, fade, black)
- Adjust pacing; trim redundancy; emphasize climax
- Background music, ambience, action SFX
- Dialogue or narration
- Sync with picture; hit rhythm points
- Unify overall color grade; reduce differences between clips
- Add grain, vignette, etc. for a cinematic look
- Title, captions, end card
- Adapt aspect ratio and resolution for the platform
Step 5: Publish
- Export format and resolution (e.g., 1080p, 9:16 vertical)
- Write title, description, tags
- Iterate from feedback; build a library of prompts and workflows
Tool Recommendations
- Script: Notion, Feishu, dedicated screenwriting tools
- Storyboard: Figma, Miro, spreadsheets + reference images
- Generation: Runway, Sora, Kling + reference generation (Midjourney, etc.)
- Editing: DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, CapCut
- Sound: Epidemic Sound, Artlist, free SFX libraries
Summary
AI filmmaking is a structured flow from script to storyboard, generation, editing, and publish. Clear storyboards improve control; editing and sound significantly improve the final experience. A standardized workflow helps efficiency and quality.
